Responsibilities:
-Partner with the Client Relationships and Structuring teams to understand market opportunities for new risk transfer solutions
-Explore and drive innovative solutions supporting the defined benefit solutions growth strategy by working closely with internal and external partners
-Lead investigations into how to differentiate defined benefit solutions product offering from that of its competitors
-Execute key Innovation Lab feasibility studies by conducting research, drafting studies and providing recommendations on next steps
-Manage the implementation of promising feasibility studies by partnering with other defined benefit solutions teams
-Partner with the various teams to identify opportunities to better manage defined benefit solutions’ inforce group annuities from a financial and operational perspective
-Work with defined benefit solutions and senior management to prioritize these opportunities
-Implement the prioritized opportunities by partnering with internal and external teams and stakeholders
-Chair the defined benefit solutions Inforce Lab
-Own the strategic planning process for defined benefit solutions
-Develop and lead a high performing team of actuarial students to execute on the role’s mandate
-Influence key stakeholders to create support for defined benefit solutions’ innovation and inforce management priorities’
Qualifications:
-Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics or statistics
-FSA designation
-Minimum of 5 years of insurance and/or pension experience in an actuarial role
-Very strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills that allow for deep actuarial analysis
-Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas to non-actuaries
-Strong influencing skills
-Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities
-Excellent people skills to manage relationships with defined benefit solutions stakeholders and coordinate large cross-functional teams
-Previous knowledge of reinsurance structures, securitization, group annuities and/or registered pension plans is an asset
-Previous knowledge of pricing, valuation, asset liability management is an asset
-Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, challenge the status quo and promote new solutions
-Highly motivated, proactive, conceptual thinker who is able to take a leadership role in a wide variety of assignments
