Responsibilities:


-Understand complex actuarial concepts, discuss complex issues with the engagement team and client management, keep informed of professional standards and firm policies (e.g., Actuarial Standards of Practice), and effectively apply this knowledge to client situations. 
-Develop/maintain strong working relationships with key business decision makers. 
-Provide guidance and expertise to team members and focus on complex/specialized actuarial issues. 
-Collaborate to determine the engagement objectives and strategy. 
-Manage expectations of service. Successfully manage to the budget. 
-Recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical/industry developments. -
-Communicate and apply strategic objectives and organizational policies. 
-Develop people. 
-Successfully delegate to all levels of staff. Serve as a positive leader and mentor, and contribute to performance feedback/training. 
-Foster teamwork and innovative thinking. 
-Commit to developing knowledge. Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery. 
-Respect/protect client information. 
-Maintain an educational program to continually develop skills. 
-Generate new business opportunities. 
-Achieve growth by understanding service lines and actively assessing/presenting opportunities for the firm to bring value to clients. 
-Develop long-term relationships and networks.

Qualifications:


-At least 5 years of experience working in a Life Insurance actuarial-oriented position.
-Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries, or particular business/industry experience to meet special needs.
-Good knowledge of US actuarial practice and standards (e.g. DAC, reserving standards, etc.), including relevant knowledge related to US GAAP and US Statutory reporting (i.e. to the extent normally required by an actuary who works in a business unit that reports under US GAAP and US Statutory accounting).
-Knowledge of Canadian actuarial practice and standards would be an asset.
-Strong communication skills from both a verbal and business writing perspective.
-Strong conceptual, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
-Excellent problem-solving and client-service skills.
-PC proficiency including knowledge of Excel (knowledge of actuarial-related software would be an asset).
-Must also be willing and able to travel, when necessary, although such is not expected to be a significant amount.
