-Data Integrity: Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the data in the CDW, by providing business requirements and participating in the design and testing processes for all CDW development changes and enhancements in co-operation with ITS support teams. Investigates and documents issues related to data and then works with IT to implement changes to resolve the problem. Conducts User Acceptance Testing as part of project-initiated work (e.g. Product & Pricing changes).
-BI Requests: Analyzes requests from business staff at any level of organization, assesses business value of request, designs, tests and implements approved query reports or data extracts against any corporate data sources; may run one time or implement into production depending on ad hoc or ongoing requirement. A Senior BI Professional deals with business sensitive data and complex BI Requests.
-Projects: Leads small projects as requested by Manager or Team Leader to build applications/ tools and further the effectiveness of information delivery. Works on internal Analytics/ Actuarial Services or external cross-department project teams as requested to represent the interests of Business Intelligence.  An example of a project is the annual data extract and preparation work done for reinsurance treaty negotiations.
-Administration, Training and Support: Administers business intelligence tools. Provides training, support and documentation to business leaders and analysts regarding the structure, content and context of BI systems and the effective use of BI tools. Manages upgrades to business intelligence software as required. Conducts research and development into new business intelligence tools and methods as required. Develops new views of data to provide meaningful business intelligence to all levels of the organization.
-Data & Change Management: Defines requirements for additional data, tables and /or datamarts based on needs of business community.  Communicates and co-ordinates with IT to develop, test, distribute and maintain required results.
-Operational and Self-Serve Reports: Designs, develops, tests and maintains complex operational and self-serve reports for application systems in collaboration with senior BI staff.
-Complex data preparation across multiple data organizations for use in corporate analysis and analytics; must apply knowledge of business and systems to ensure data is "cleansed" for accuracy. Participate in peer reviews and propose suggestions for improvements. Create detailed documentation for all work that is created. Adhere to BI "How We Work" process. Enable data security access per corporate policies.


-A university or college degree in computer science, business with computer science minor or a related discipline.
-Senior level work experience in the property and casualty insurance industry with direct experience with business intelligence systems and data; five years preferred.
-Strong analytical abilities proven over a minimum of five years of related experience, especially in the area of understanding business users' needs and matching those needs to data availability.
-Consistently demonstrates maturity under pressure, strong self-management skills and performs effectively in a busy team environment.
-Proficient written and oral communication in English; French is an asset.
-Previous BI tools experience of five years with preference  in Pentaho, Cognos 10 Report Studio, Cognos 10 Analysis Studio, Base SAS, Microsoft Office tools, Exceed (Hummingbird Neighbourhood), IBM Data Studio, Nitro PDF, Adobe Professional, TSO/ISPF environment, DB2 SQL, Oracle SQL, VSM, Java. Strong in-depth understanding of relational databases, preferably DB2 and Oracle; capable of developing OLAP multidimensional cubes, frameworks and reports; knowledge of Hadoop beneficial.
-Strong skills and experience in effective use of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook and Sharepoint, with a focus on strong skills in Excel.
-Strong understanding of modern data management, business intelligence methodologies and solutions; certification through The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) beneficial.
-Proven understanding of systems development life cycle and project management with experience in requirements definition and testing; experience in agile development using Kanban management methodology preferred; minimum experience three years preferred.
-Advanced knowledge of internal systems and external data sources, independent of specific technology; minimum experience three years.
